0 – The Fool

Symbolism

The Fool travels light. He carries little with him and seems to have few expectations of life. This represents freedom, lightheartedness, and a willingness to engage with life without trying to control or plan everything in advance. He is not yet heavily bound by material possessions, security, or fixed ideas.

His colorful clothes reflect creativity, spontaneity, and a wealth of ideas. The Fool is free to experiment, play, and discover his own path.

His upward gaze reveals his openness and idealism. At the same time, this can imply a certain naivety: he does not necessarily see the dangers along his path. He wants to gain his own experiences rather than being told by others what is right or wrong.

The dog at his side can be seen as a loyal companion—a symbol of trust, friendship, good nature, and intuitive guidance on his journey. It reminds the Fool that he is not traveling entirely alone.

The rose represents the beauty of life. The Fool carries this beauty with him, even though he does not yet know what life holds in store for him.

In the background, we see mountains. They serve as a reminder that a long journey lies ahead and that experiences await him—experiences he cannot yet even imagine.

The Fool does not see the potential fall. And therein lies his unique quality: he sets out anyway.

The Fool is frequently associated with Uranus—the principle of freedom, surprise, change, and the unconventional.

My Personal Perspective on the Fool

To me, the Fool speaks of a new phase of life—one where we gather experiences and are just beginning to discover our path.

The journey will not always be a straight line. There will be ups and downs, surprises, detours, and perhaps even moments when we wonder why we set out in the first place.

Yet, as long as we remain open, joyful, and curious, there can be immense power in that very experience.

At the same time, the Fool reminds me that freedom does not mean an absence of boundaries.

Over time, we can develop structures, establish routines, and make decisions to which we are truly committed.

The Fool need not cease to be free; he can learn to shape his freedom consciously.
